Sports have been a central part of many students’ young lives. For some, their sports career will end at graduation. For others, their career is just beginning.
Senior Ivan Rakic is among these athletes. Rakic has recently committed to playing tennis at Michigan State University. Rakic’s tennis career has spanned over the past 12 years. “I played for Pioneer for my first three years (here),” said Rakic. “Other than those three seasons, I play all my tennis independently through the USTA and ITF.” Rakic is eager to start at MSU and considers his commitment to be the biggest accomplishment of his career. “I have a lot of friends on that team so I’m happy to reunite with them again,” says Rakic. “I’m also excited about experiencing the honors college, football games, basketball games and meeting new people.” Rakic plans to study PreMed and business at Michigan State, and hopes to coach at his father’s tennis club post-college.
Along with King and Rakic, senior Shawn Roberts has officially committed to Albion College in Albion, Michigan, to play soccer. Roberts has played soccer for 12 years and is thrilled to have the opportunity to continue his career in college. Roberts considers: “making the Regional All Midwest Olympic Development Team,” his biggest achievement.
Roberts is planning to attend Albion and pursue a career in engineering. “I plan to do three years of studies at Albion,” says Roberts, “then the goal would be to spend the last two years at the University of Michigan.” Roberts hopes his career continues past college, and hopes to be involved with soccer as long as possible. “I will always play it as long as I’m able.”
